Our StoryThen Until Now
How We Got Started
Breathe. Physical Therapy & Wellness was founded by two PT School classmates and friends with a shared vision for a different kind of physical therapy. Molly started school with a goal of opening her own business one day, and Libby never dreamed she’d own her own business. They took very different paths to get there, but one hot summer afternoon in August 2016, dreams started to become reality, and Breathe. was born.
We are tremendously grateful for all of the voices in our community and support we’ve received along the way. We ask for your continued support as we begin to change the conversation about how physical therapy is delivered. We are especially grateful to our husbands and families, without whose support this tremendous step would not be possible. Namaste.
We Practice a holistic approach
A Different Kind of Physical Therapy
When you enter our clinic, you’ll know immediately that this is the place for you, a place unlike any other physical therapy clinic. We want you to feel all the stress and anxiety from your day melt away as soon as you walk through the door. There are no big machines or other equipment that you don’t have at home. We have private treatment rooms, and you spend the entire time one-on-one with your physical therapist. We truly listen to you, and work with you to find solutions to all your concerns. You will leave each session feeling comfortable and confident with something to work on at home.

Dr. Kaylee Carroll
Kaylee has been with Breathe. since June of 2017. She continues to find passion in empowering her clients to understand their bodies better and work together to improve symptoms. She has pursued extensive professional training in women’s health, pelvic floor and core dysfunction, incontinence, pelvic pain, pre-natal and post-natal care, dry needling, and a variety of manual therapy techniques. She loves spending loads of time with her friends and family and snuggling her baby boy.
Dr. Molly Lechtenberg
PT, DPT, CMTPT
Molly has worked with clients through all phases of life for over 10 years, but started focusing on women’s health after years of fertility struggles and the traumatic birth of her first daughter. She focuses on hands on therapy to ease pain quickly and she is certified in myofascial trigger point dry needling. She also has training in Medical Therapeutic Yoga, and uses that to restore strength & flexibility after the muscle restrictions are released. She would spend every second with her two girls, if she didn’t love Breathe. so much.
Dr. Mary Hausler
Mary (she/her) received her Doctorate of Physical Therapy from the University of Iowa, after identifying a deep desire to support transformation in clients with persistent and complicated pain. She began her career with specialized training in pelvic health and thrives in working with this population. Additionally, one of Mary‘s many passions includes serving the LGBTQIA+ population and she hopes to create a safe space at Breathe. to better serve this group in central Iowa. An undergraduate student of Drake University, Mary is deeply connected to the Des Moines community. She is an avid fan of anything Hawkeye athletics as well as the United States women’s national soccer team.
Mary’s love and care for women and children originated from years at an OBGYN clinic. She brings a service focused approach and first-hand experience as a client of Breathe.’s into every interaction to help women feel hopeful again! She and her husband of 43 years have 3 daughters, 6 grandchildren, one great grand son and another on the way. Her idea of fun includes being outdoors or completing a good puzzle, the harder the better.

Dr. Lily Gasway
Director of Marketing & Relationships
Reanna (she/her) is head over heels about Breathe. Beginning as a patient, turned marketing consultant and now Director of Marketing, Reanna has a deep understanding of the difference in holistic care offered at Breathe. A relationship builder at heart, her foundation is in elevating the stories of others. Using her Master of Arts in Strategic Communication she looks for new and creative ways to connect with Breathe. clients and the women we hope to serve. Find her sharing raspberries on the front lawn with her young son or dancing around the kitchen with her husband when she’s not in the office.
Madalyn (she/her) is a 2020 graduate of Iowa State University in music performance. Her passion for music, and the people that go along with it, knows no bounds. Some of Madalyn’s favorite activities include smiling, laughing, and singing at the top of her lungs to any 90s country tune. When she is not in the office, she can be found soaking up sunshine in her front lawn with a glass of red wine.
Dr. Kristen Strawhacker-Bonzer
PT, DPT, ATC, LAT
A 2014 graduate of Washington University in St. Louis, Kristen is trained in Movement System Impairment, Medical Therapeutic Yoga and dry needling. She combines that with her pelvic and women’s health training to use a truly holistic approach. As an avid runner, and yearly marathon competitor, her passion lies in assisting female athletes of all ages and abilities with a truly unique approach. She would love to see female athletes optimize their training and start winning races, traditionally topped by men. When not cross training, she can be found in her garden or cooking.
Dr. Libby Trausch
After 10 years as a doctor of physical therapy, Libby has created a niche practice in persistent pain, women’s health, and pelvic floor dysfunction. She has had 3 babies and experienced nearly every pelvic floor and low back symptom we treat, in addition to most kinds of birth (C-section, VBAC & almost home birth). She loves putting together the pieces and help people with the most complicated medical histories see a way forward, find relief, and even more importantly, rediscover hope.
Debbie’s passion for our clients and her job shines through in her fresh perspectives and welcoming demeanor. She’s the bright light and smile that greets you on the phone or at the door! Naya (she/her) is a 1st generation Jamaican who is happily returning to Iowa after 8 years in Philadelphia. She is in the process of studying Public Health and Fertility Awareness Education and looks forward to using her experience and knowledge to support people living authentic, healthy lives. She’s excited to be part of the Breathe. Front Desk team and looks forward to meeting you! When she’s not at Breathe., she enjoys dancing, watching Netflix, or curling up for a cat nap in the sun after reading a good book.
