Using Food to Speed Recovery
4 Foods to Boost Your Body’s Ability to Heal
“Let food be thy medicine and medicine be thy food”
Injuries are inevitable. If you have a human body, you’re going to have injuries. It’s just how it is. With this understanding, we can equip ourselves with some valuable tools (a solid physical therapist we trust, a habit of taking care of ourselves, and a list of foods to help us heal) to improve our quality of life. Don’t let injuries set you back anymore.
Heal faster with these four foods:
Foods high in antioxidants work to ward off and remove toxins from the body. One way they do this is by aiding digestion and detoxification. Turmeric, ginger and coffee fall into this category too!
Protein provides the building block to repair the body more quickly after an injury. When you get hurt, pay attention to your protein intake. Not a meat eater, try high protein plants like quinoa, lentils, chickpeas and beans.
Loaded with vitamin C and calcium. Both of these play a critical role in building new protein for the body and balancing and improving hormone levels and immunity. Think leafy greens, peppers and citrus fruits!
4. Raw nuts
Healthy fats, like omega-3 fatty acids, are necessary for brain health and research shows they reduce inflammation around joints. Other examples include salmon, avocados and flax seed. Nuts are also high in zinc which plays a huge role in boosting your immune system. If you have small children you know how important it is to have a strong immune system!
It’s important to note that we should always make sure we’re eating enough. Your body needs calories and nutrient dense foods (like those listed above) to keep inflammation low and energy levels high. Don’t be afraid to eat!
